WIND IS BLOWING THE WILDFIRE ON MOSCOW MOUNTAIN TOWARDS THE EAST. THE FIRE IS BURNING ON THE SOUTH FLANK ON THE WEST END OF THE MOUNTAIN. VIEWING THE FIRE FROM MOUNTAIN VIEW PARK, THE SMOKE IS IN A LINE HEADING WEST, INDICATING THE FIRE IS STILL SPREADING.

VIDEO POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA SHOWS ONE HELICOPTER AND TWO AIRPLANES DROPPING WATER OR RETARDANT ON THE FIRE THIS (MONDAY) AFTERNOON. KRFP OBSERVED WATER TRUCKS HEADING OUT MOUNTAIN VIEW ROAD HEADING TO THE FIRE.

FIRE OFFICIALS SAY THERE ARE EVACUATION IN PLACE ON IDLER’S REST AND TWIN ROADS. OFFICIALS ALSO ASK PEOPLE TO STAY CLEAR OF THE AREA AS FIRE CREWS WORK THE AREA. IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF LANDS CREWS WERE ON THE SCENE AS WELL AS CREWS FROM OTHER FIRE DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE PALOUSE.

THE DAILY NEWS (WEBSITE) REPORTED 100 TO 120 FIREFIGHTERS ARE ON THE SCENE, AND TWO HELICOPTERS PLUS FIVE AIR TANKERS WERE DROPPING RETARDANT ON THE FIRE.

THE CITY OF MOSCOW POSTED THE FOLLOWING ON LINE:

***UPDATE*** The evacuation area has been expanded to all properties north of 3830 Mountain View Road. Please evacuate the area immediately.

**UPDATE** Those displaced by the fire or affected may go to the Latah County Fairgrounds where the Red Cross is available to help.

*UPDATE* Crews on scene have asked that drones not be flown in the area as aircraft are assisting with response.

**Immediate evacuation for Idlers Rest and Twin Roads due to wildfire**

Structures and significant land is currently burning, all are being evacuated immediately.

Moscow Rural Fire Department, Moscow Fire Department, Pullman and Whitman County fire crews are all on scene. The fire is not contained and those on Idlers Rest and Twin Roads are being asked to evacuate immediately. Emergency responders are asking that people avoid the area AND DO NOT FLY DRONES near the fire.

Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown.

IDLER’S REST NATURE PRESERVE REPORTED ON ITS FACEBOOK PAGE RURAL FIRE CREWS WERE ON THE SCENE NEAR THE NATURE PRESERVE. THE FIRE STARTED NEAR IDLER’S REST ROAD AND WAS FIRST REPORTED AT 2:40 P.M. IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF LANDS INCIDENT COMMANDER MICHAEL McMANUS TOLD THE DAILY NEWS THE IDLER’S REST NATURE PRESERVE IS THREATENED, BUT FLAMES HAVE NOT ENTERED THE RESERVE AS OF ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. THE IDLER’S REST NATURE PRESERVE INCLUDES AN ANCIENT CEDAR GROVE AND HIKING TRAILS.

FIRE OFFICIAL SAID AT 6:30 P.M. THE FIRE HAD BURNED 75 ACRES.   They said at least two structures had burned, one of them being a house.
