ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15TH, 2014, THE CITY OF MOSCOW HOSTED A PUBLIC WORKSHOP WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF DUTCH HAULING COMPANY MAMMOET, THE IDAHO TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT, THE IDAHO STATE POLICE, LATAH COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND ELECTED OFFICIALS ON MAMMOET’S PLANS TO HAUL 1.6 MILLION POUND MEGALOADS THROUGH MOSCOW AND LATAH COUNTY STARTING LATER THIS MONTH. THE SUPERSIZED MEGALOADS MAY BE THE LARGEST INDUSTRIAL TRANSPORTS EVER ON INLAND NORTHWEST ROADWAYS. THE SIZE OF THE TRANSPORTS GREATLY EXCEEDS THE GIANT PIECES OF EXXON-MOBIL TAR SANDS EQUIPMENT MAMMOET HAULED THROUGH MOSCOW IN 2011 AND 2012, WHICH TOPPED OFF AT JUST ABOVE 400,000 POUNDS. THE LOADS, WHICH ARE HEADED TO THE CALUMET REFINERY IN GREAT FALLS WHICH PROCESSES TAR SANDS HEAVY CRUDE, ARE ALSO APPARENTLY GOING TO BE SETTING RECORDS FOR THE LONGEST AND WIDEST. THEY ARE 441 FEET LONG ,WHICH IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A 44 STORY BUILDING, AND 27 FEET WIDE, WHICH IS WIDER THAN TWO LANES.
